USING POLICY MAKING OR INFLUENCING:
TO ACHIEVE THIS CHANGE.
Many joint efforts from the world
health organization and so many countries in the world today have been
undertaken to fight the problem of poor health care system in countries around
the globe. But good is not just enough when dealing with human life rather the
best is expected.
Nigeria, a country in West Africa
for instance has many mouths to feed and many lives to take care of with the
increasing population of the country. So many setbacks have been experienced by
the country’s health care system. According to statistics, in Nigeria, primary
health care do not get at least 20% of their medication every year. People are
forced to travel from clinic to clinic to find a doctor with the right
medicine. It leads to death of hundreds of Nigerians ever year.
Critically looking at this
situation, most rural areas have the health centre built by the government but lack
proper funding and medication. Sometimes, as a result of corruption the
materials meant for those health centre do not reach them. More so, so many
people in the rural areas are yet to be brought to the consciousness of a
proper way to live a healthy life.
In order to bring a positive and
lasting change in the health care system, I consider these things to be done
among others:
First, adequate funding of both the regional and state
health centre to provide free medical care to all citizens especially the poor,
good salaries for the doctors and nurses to minimize their frequent migration
to other places with favorable working conditions.
Secondly, proper supervision of medical materials dispatched
to various health centre to ensure that they adequately get to their
destination and are used for the purpose.
Thirdly, incorporation of nutrition education in all formal
and informal levels of education; I believe that when people are properly
taught on healthy living which involves proper nutrition, food hygiene, ways to
purify drinking water, the level of ill health will reduce. Intervention
program should be carried out in rural areas in order to facilitate change in
their health issues. I will personally be involved in bringing all these
attention of the political leaders and also participate in organizing the
special intervention programs in the rural areas. With this in Nigeria and
other countries in place, I believe there will be a drastic change in the
health care system around the globe.
